This also means if you are lazy and ask for 100% workers and forget to manage that for a while, you will overload your base with workers, run out of food and not have enough time to fix the issue. So this makes micromanaging the population a bit more important as a guard cannot change and become a biologist. They are workers, engineers, biologists, medics, and guards. The additional depth here is instead of just workers that can fill any job role on demand, in Planetbase theres actually 5 roles that are locked to a specific colonist. If you have played Banished, this model will be fairly recognizable to you. Overall the key seems to be slow growth and development, micromanaging production of necessary resources, and not building beyond your means. If you run out of food, a die off will start and likely overwhelm you. Seriously, dont add population until you have a good reserve of food built up and properly stored. And dont hesitate to remove something if you feel like you don't have the manpower for it. Never just build a bunch of anything without the man power to work them. As they will split time among all of them lowering efficiency. If you build 3 metal processors up front without the proper workers to man them, its a problem.

You need 1-2 workers per metal processor and bioplastic processor, plus the workers for the mine to get the ore for metal. The lack of water will trigger a tidal wave of issues, thirst, lack of water for labs and bio domes, all of this will lower efficiency and by the time you have the mats to build the needed structures, the mass die offs will start.Дon't overbuild production facilities, keep them matched with you pop count. If you start to go low on water for example, and have no metal to build a new extractor ASAP, you are likely done. Build up a store of Metal and Bioplastics, and keep them above ten each, this will help you avoid a catastrophic issue. One point I stick to, is never build anything that you dont have mat's available for. The first like 5 games I played, I made the same mistake everytime which was trying to expand too fast.

The biggest tip for a newbie in my mind is this: Build slowly.

You need to know how the game works as in this game, a minor error early and you will have to start over from scratch.
